A soundcheck proves the system and the operating plan.
Soundcheck is not simply a chance to make channels louder. It verifies the signal path, patch, gain structure, processing, coverage, monitor relationships, show cues and recovery readiness.
The selection principle

Five-question selection check
System
Are power, network, processing, loudspeakers and communication paths healthy?
Patch
Does every labelled source reach the intended channel, bus and destination?
Gain
Can quiet detail and realistic peaks pass without noise or overload?
Coverage
Is speech and programme consistent across the occupied audience area?
Show flow
Have scenes, playback, handovers, walk-ins and contingencies been rehearsed?
Application notes
Context changes the answer.
Corporate programme
Check every presenter format, panel position, playback source, remote contribution, lectern and audience-question route.
Concert
Line-check first, build monitor relationships, verify inputs at performance level, then balance the system with the whole ensemble.
Hybrid event
Confirm that room, stream, remote return, mix-minus, recording and communication paths work simultaneously without loops.
The common mistake
Treating line check and soundcheck as the same thing
A line check proves that a signal reaches the expected destination. Soundcheck evaluates level, tone, interaction, coverage and workflow under realistic operating conditions.
