Backline advancing turns a rider into an executable local plan.
A rider is a request and information source, not proof of availability or final agreement. Advancing resolves models, substitutions, quantities, configuration, tuning, consumables, stage positions, power, patch and changeovers.

Exact need
Which model, size, configuration, accessory, tuning and condition requirements are functionally important?
Availability
What is locally confirmed, reserved and service-ready, and what requires an approved alternative?
Interfaces
How does each item connect to stage power, audio, MIDI, RF, stands, risers and monitoring?
People
Who receives, builds, tunes, patches, supports and signs off each artist position?
Changeover
What remains, moves or resets between acts, and how is every configuration labelled?
Application notes
Context changes the answer.
Corporate entertainment
Short soundchecks and tight schedules make advance confirmation, labelled positions and immediate support more important than an oversized inventory list.
Touring artist
Local supply must reconcile rider detail with current touring files and direct artist-production approval of deviations.
Festival changeover
Shared systems, rolling risers, line changes and multiple artist packages require disciplined ownership and reset documentation.
The common mistake
Replying “available” without confirming configuration
A drum shell without required sizes and hardware, an amplifier without cabinet or voltage detail, or a keyboard without stand, pedals and outputs is not a completed advance.
